We attended the Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees at Heriot Watt for Son #1, and like every parent, friend and Graduate present, we were in turn grateful, relieved and emotional.
Heriot Watt has for the second consecutive year, been voted by students as the best University experience in Scotland, and the 4th in the UK see here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-19743025.
It has leapt up University League tables, and its International standing is increasing with each year – new campus’ and new degree courses – attracting more International students and greater diversity.
As a parent, I cannot express my gratitude in the pastoral and academic care given to support students, enabling them to achieve success, even in difficult circumstances.
As a teacher, I promote Heriot Watt as forward thinking, exceptional in its diversity of practical applied degree courses, researching at the leading edge of science. As I am proud of my school for its all-inclusive admission policy, so do I value those same attributes at University level.
As a former engineer, I value the links it shares with professional bodies and institutions to open up engineering, science and business to a broader section of society.
So I say a big heart-felt THANK YOU to all academic colleagues, support staff and students, for the wonderful experience they have given to Son #1, and hope they all go on to achieve great success and further recognition for the fantastic work they do in education.
